The Chaffinch belongs to the family of the Finches.
Its presence extends into wooded and bushy lands in most of Europe.

The diet includes the consumption of weeds. It is recommended seed consists of millet, canary grass, hemp, flax, niger, etc. and also prefers insects during the reproductive period.

The breeding period starts from the end of spring with an average of 3 broods per season, with nests constructed mostly of moss and lichen.

In the 18th and 19th centuries was introduced in the former British colonies. Now the only introduction that has adapted over time is in a small colony near Cape Town, South Africa.

The Chaffinch is very difficult to hybridize with other birds. There are rare cases of hybridization with Goldfinch and Greenfinch.
