The Purple Grenadier prefers dry places, with bushy vegetation and dry, and is present throughout the central eastern Africa from Ethiopia to Tanzania.

The male has a beautiful purple color that goes from the extreme rear of the abdomen to the chest and hips. Has purple stains around the eye and the rest of the body is deep brown. The beak and the area around the eyes is red. The female has the purple color of the tail as the male. The rest of the body is rich brown with white bars on the lower chest and upper hips. Around the eyes there are white feathers.

The diet of purple grenadine is made from grains of panic, canary seed, millet straw, red millet, niger and small insects.

The breeding period starts from August to December with an average of 2 to 3 broods per season. In coupling between the various birds, it is essential the first observation period to check the aggression of the male against female, and consider the couple final.
