The Red-faced Pytilia lives in open areas or in the bush, woodland or on the margins of crops and orchards. It's present in Central Africa from east to Sierra Leone to Cameroon and the Central African Republic.

It's small, has short wings and a red-yellow end. The rest of the body is dark gray in the female with tail and codione red. The male has a red color in the face and cheeks.

It feeds mainly on small seeds of panic, canary grass, millet, niger and small insects.

The breeding period starts from September to January / February with an average of 2 to 3 broods per season. It needs a closed box nest or pear nest and prefers the coconut cord for the construction of the nest.
